Why try?
On deciding if it's worth trying to mitigate climate change if the end result is collapse.
When it’s all over,
I want to remember
those who tried.
I am trying
to discern
the difference
between acceptance
and nihilism.
What’s the point?
Accepting it’s too late
doesn’t mean we have to
reject
those who are
still trying.
Because what pure beauty
there is in the human spirit
that says
wait. Let me try.
People who fight
and raise their voice
against injustice,
decades for
acknowledgement
of the smallest of words…
There is value in being acknowledged on the way down.
To say,
we know the truth,
the errors of our ways.
Even though we can’t
solve it, saying it out loud
threatens
to take our breath away,
but also releases a
cleansing breath
that can heal us.
And isn’t that what
we’re looking for?
Healing words,
healing thoughts,
a way to live with this
knowledge of collapse?
I will support those who try.
Because their efforts
are worth
healing their soul,
even if they can’t
heal the world.
